After Uni I started with Alcoa at the Kwinana Refinery as a project engineer (Civil). After 5 years there and a year of travelling, I worked at Bruechle Gilchrist and Evans (BGE) learning all about Structural Engineering and did an MBA at UWA at the same time (crazy times then as also played lots of basketball and partied). I then worked as a structural engineering contractor with stints at Proteus and Clough before settling down at GHD for the next 22 years until the present time - mostly as the Manager of the Structures and Bridges Group. The GHD phase also coincided with being married and having two lovely daughters, and I recall not turning up for work in the first week at GHD due the arrival of the first daughter. I retired in 2022 and now spend my spare time with my wife, Gayle, playing bridge and golf and riding bikes, especially down the Munda Biddi Trail.

Joined Telecom after uni and stayed 29 years for a few careers covering radio telecommunications, customer network engineering, and the integration of new products including the expansion of the internet from 2MB pipes out of Australia to similar amounts from your house, expansion of ADSL, and introduction of 3G / Next G mobile phone networks and products. A short stint consulting on networks and NBN matters was followed by a program management role for the maintenance of Western Power’s transmission network. Currently a specialist oversighting the delivery of Western Power’s total works program.  I’ve got 3 boys and the youngest has just finished school. The eldest have graduated as engineers - a civil and a mech but I won’t hold that against them.  My partner Flavia spends her time cleaning up after them whilst I go out riding a bike and sometimes take advantage of the short abalone season.

Perth After graduating I worked at Telecom Australia for a year and soon realised this was not the place I wanted to be long term. I then joined Worley Engineering as an Instrument and Control  Engineer working on the North Rankin A Gas platform. I have been involved in the oil and gas industry ever since in various roles ranging from design, construction and commissioning.  Over the past 30 odd years I have worked for Santos, Woodside, Worley Parsons and am now on the Gorgon Project. Most of my work has been in Perth, however I have had stints in Adelaide, 4 years in Malaysia and one and a half years in South Korea. I am married and have 3 boys all in their early twenties. On Sunday mornings I can be found on the cycle paths around Perth. Yes, I am one of those MAMILS (Middle Aged Men in Lycra)

After graduating I went to work for Westrail.  I soon worked out that I preferred management to engineering so I started moving towards management roles at Westrail and then enrolled in an MBA course at Curtin Uni.  In 1988, I moved to Ampol managing the WA seaboard terminals.  After a couple of years I moved into the role of State Operations Manager and keep that position when Ampol and Caltex merged in 1995.  When the American management style eventually replaced the very efficient and exciting Ampol processes I decided it was time to move on and to try something totally different; I went to work for Sodexho as General Manager Food Service at Royal Perth Hospital.  Loved that role but unfortunately after 6 years the state government decided to take catering services back in house so the job came to an end.  At that point I thought I’d try a local company so I went to work for Kailis Brothers managing their warehousing and distribution operations.  In 2007, I landed what has become my ideal job – Director of Operations at Hale School.  Apart from the diversity of the role, what I love about the job is that the focus is not on making profit but on how to provide the best possible facilities with the money that is available.  The other bonus is that I have almost every weekend off to spend with my grandchildren.

I have been fortunate to have been given opportunities in technical, operational and major capital project management roles within the company since commencing. Except for a six month stint in the USA, my work has been in Australia, including a total of 10 years in Port Hedland. I completed my MBA at UWA during the nineties.  Lauril and I have two sons, one at UWA studying Engineering and the other at school.
Now retired.

Mandurah I joined Alcoa at Kwinana when I graduated as an Industrial Engineer where I worked for a couple of years and then left to work for BHP in Pt Hedland where I replaced the locomotive fleet and then ran the train set for a while.  I then spent a couple of years with CRA at the Weipa bauxite mine in NQ, replacing the mining fleet, building a new fleet maintenance workshop and a stint as the maintenance supervisor.  In 1993 I returned to Alcoa, this time at Pinjarra and have been there every since having had various roles in maintenance, operations, inventory management and procurement systems for Australia and more recently for the global organization.  For a time, I was responsible for data integrity and quality for Alcoa’s global procurement systems. Since leaving Alcoa, I started my own company - Rural data Management Services to assist farmers to track them livestock and productivity.
I married Sue after we graduated and we have 3 (grown) sons.  Interests include family, travel, geocaching & Rotary.

Port Hedland Strangely, having worked for Main Roads since graduation, I am currently residing in Port Hedland – the economic powerhouse of the country (or at least it was until the iron ore price went down!) as I needed a change in environment (and to force my 2 kids out of my house – partly successful). Out of hours I like to explore the Pilbara and enjoy camping and fishing.

After graduating, I worked as a Hardware Engineer on satellites for British Aerospace in the UK. After 4 years, I then moved to the US and worked for RCA, again on satellite design. I spent 4 years with RCA then moved into medical device design. I have worked for 4 different companies working on a variety of medical devices. Presently I am the Director of Systems Engineering for a company that has commercialized a neuro-stimulator for treating psychiatric conditions.  I met my wife in the US and keep active with my kids. I enjoy the outdoors, especially skiing, camping and hiking.

Steer Ian Elec y 1 2 0 Perth Joined Telecom with a bunch of others after graduating, left after 18 months, then worked for Ace-t, Westrail signalling (briefly), Intellect Australia and Transcom.  During the late 80s, I persevered through an MBA back at UWA - then decided I didn't like being a manager!  Transcom was for final straw for me for the electronics industry in Perth and joined BHP Engineering.  BHPE was then sold to Hatch, and there I stayed for the next 19 years (last 6 years seconded to the Gorgon LNG Project).  After being retrenched in Jan 2016, I retired.  Can be seen; playing bad golf at Collier Park and Point Walter, driving a 2016 Mustang, driving a 1928 Model A Ford, and riding a mountain bike or road bike.

Perth I joined MRD WA on graduation. Left them for Freyssinet in Brisbane.  Shortly changed to MRD SW Qld.  Offered a job in Melbourne with Humes and commenced 25 years in the precast industry, with five companies, in engineering, sales and management positions.   This included Quickfloor in Brisbane, Rocla in Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane.  I picked up a MBA from Deakin Uni along the way as well as recently completing a Grad Cert at UQ.   I briefly came back to the road industry in SW Qld with a FIFO position with the flood recovery project.   Most recently I have been manager of a Perth precast manufacturer.  We have parted ways and I am now looking for the next opportunity. I met and married my wife in Toowoomba.  We have one son, born in Brisbane who has just graduated from UQ in Civil Engineering

Following graduation I worked for Alcoa at the Kwinana Alumina Refinery. I was there for a period of almost 10 years and had a number of roles during that time. Early on I was involved in project engineering, then spent time in maintenance, powerhouse operations and worked my way to operations centre manager. In late 1989, through my relationships with United Construction, I was lured to take on the general manager role for listed mining services contractor Monadelphous. The company was being restructured by UC after a period of receivership. I have been with Monadelphous ever since (now 25 years) and have been Managing Director since 2003 based in our Head Office in Perth. I am happily married with two teenage children. My work keeps me pretty busy....in my spare time, I love my sport, especially footy (Eagles), music, and spending time with my family, particularly down south.

I've strayed from the faith quite a bit. I initially worked for Solahart in an engineering role but then got involved with technical service, then selling, then marketing, and finally ran the company. Following this I had a series of management roles with Futuris in Perth and Sydney running some of their manufacturing businesses. In 2000 I formed an event management company with a few ex-colleagues and ran this for 14 years before selling it last year. Now I work with a Melbourne-centred business advisory firm but as one of three Perth-based partners. I work mainly in the SME space helping with marketing, organisational and strategic issues (and I'm always looking for new clients). Along the way I completed an MBA and I teach part-time at Edith Cowan and Notre Dame Universities.

Perth After graduating I spent 3 years in the UK working for a defence company, Cossor Electronics, then returned to Perth and worked for Acet for 8 years. When Acet went down the gurgler I worked for QPSX Communications for 7 years doing software development initially and then hardware design. Stayed until Telstra decided to close down QPSX.
I returned to the UK for another 3 years and set up a consulting company doing electronic contract work. Returned to Perth and got involved in a couple of start up companies through UWA and Curtin Uni. I then got involved in setting up another start up company - Mobilarm - developing an electronic Man Overboard safety system. Stayed there for 4 years before joining Sensear as Engineering Manager developing hearing protection and communication headsets.
After 5 years at Sensear I decided to quit and start up an independent Hearing Aid company and Audiology clinic; Hearmore and Phoenix Hearing Clinic. Hearmore and PHC have been running now for just over 1 year. It provides low cost hearing aids through pharmacy networks rather than through traditional high cost audiology clinics.
